Project Youth ArtReach mural graces new 1200 East West apartments

Home Properties, Inc. partnered with Project Youth ArtReach (PYA) to create the mural "Maryland Blooms" for their new apartment community, 1200 East West in Silver Spring.  PYA is a core program of Class Acts Arts that introduces the arts to young people in Maryland correctional settings. A team of young men from the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, guided by PYA artist Peter Krsko, designed and painted "Maryland Blooms," a mural located in 1200 East West's serenity garden.
"The mural is really the product of tremendous teamwork by these young artists," said Don Hague, Sr Vice President of Development for Home Properties and a Class Acts Arts board member. "The program not only teaches young people the arts but also instills the value of cooperation to reach a positive end result - a lesson Home Properties is proud to share with our residents."  Read more...

Six times a day, Class Acts Arts artists unlock learning through music, dance, theater and visual arts, igniting new interest in the world and its diversity. For many children, this is their first experience of live performance.

Our teaching artists also go into many under-served communities, including juvenile and adult detention and correctional facilities, with remarkable and effective results.
